LAHORE: The chief minister has taken notice of the viral videos of women’s harassment on social media and sought a report from Punjab police inspector general (IG) in this regard.

He ordered arrest of the culprits at the earliest and termed the assault incidents unbearable.

He also ordered steps to prevent such incidents in future, besides security measures to safeguard the women at the public places and gatherings.

“The presence of police personnel (at public places) must be ensured,” he said and added that such elements deserved stern punishment.

He said women were a respectable segment of society and the government would ensure their protection at any cost and added, “Justice will be ensured”.

SMU: The chief minister has said the performance of public departments will be reviewed on a regular basis and asserts that accurate statistics are of utmost importance to evaluate their work.

He was speaking to the team members of the Special Monitoring Unit (SMU) led by Fazeel Asif, who called on him at his office and presented the third year’s performance report of the government.

Mr Buzdar said a foolproof mechanism would be devised to gauge the department’s performance and directed the SMU team to focus on monitoring the same.

He said the outstanding performance of the departments and of the officers would be encouraged, while no laxity in the public service would be tolerated.
