SWABI: Some private schools in Swabi district remained opened on Wednesday despite being the holiday on account of Ashura.

The children were seen going to their institutions early in the morning.

“Our teachers told us that we should come to school like the normal days,” a fifth grader told Dawn.

A man, whose three children are enrolled in a private school, told Dawn that the district administration had failed to implement the government’s directives about holiday on Wednesday.

The government has announced public holidays on Wednesday and Thursday on account of Ashura (Muharram 9 and 10).

When contacted, principal of a private school, said that he kept his school open to make up for the losses the students had already suffered due to prolonged closure of schools owing to the coronavirus pandemic.

It was learnt that the private schools would also remain open on Thursday (today).

No education department official could be contacted to know their version on the matter.
