KARACHI, Nov 2: Many areas of the city experienced intermittent power breakdowns on Wednesday but the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation insisted its network suffered no major fault.

A resident of Federal B Area, Block 17, said his locality experienced a couple of brief power breakdowns throughout Wednesday. “For the past three days, we lose our power supply around Sehri time. But today power breakdowns continued throughout the day. My six-year-old son, Mohammad Khubaib, asked me why the KESC deputed incompetent people to monitor the power supply network of the city. If a child could figure out the reason for the KESC’s poor performance, I wonder why the army can’t?” he said.

A resident of Indus Mehran Society in Saudabad said his locality also experienced a power breakdown at Sehri time. He said he had received from his friends reports of power breakdowns in other areas at the same time. “But I wonder why the KESC is not coming out with the truth,” he said.

Residents of Gulistan-i-Jauhar, Blocks 16, 17 and 18 said their localities also experienced a prolonged power breakdown at around Sehri time. He said the entire locality experienced the power breakdown at the same time.

A resident of Clifton called to say that localities around the mausoleum of Abdullah Shah Ghazi experienced a prolonged power breakdown around 8.30pm.

However, a spokesman for the KESC said no major power breakdown hit the power utility’s network on Wednesday. He said that if the KESC’s link with the Water and Power Development Authority had been severed -– as alleged in a section of the press -– at least one-third of the city would have been without electricity.
