TAXILA: The Sikh community of Hassanabdal on Saturday celebrated Independence Day by putting on green turbans.

Celebrations were held at the Gurdwara Punja Sahib where Sikhs hoisted the national flag and sang patriotic songs. They also exchanged greetings amongst themselves.

Assistant Commissioner Zunaira Jalil was the chief guest on the occasion.

Local Sikhs and Hindus participated in the flag-hoisting and cake cutting ceremony and waved banners and flags to mark the occasion.

Local community leader Sardar Jaggi Singh said their forefathers had rendered great sacrifices for independence, and it was the result of these sacrifices that they were living in an independent country.

He said the Sikh community would stand by security forces against any foreign enemy. The Sikh community also offered special prayers for prosperity and peace.

Meanwhile, the National Highways and Motorway Police N-5 beat-4 celebrated Independence Day with national spirit and zeal and made extraordinary arrangements to celebrate this special Day with the road users.

National Highways and Motorways Police Sector Commander N-5 North, Shafeequr Rehman celebrated Independence Day by installing special Independence Day Stalls at all the Taxila Toll Plaza and distributing national flags, flowers and sweet candies among the motorists, especially children.

A special Prayer was made for the Pakistan & martyrs of NH&MP and bouquets and other gifts were sent to their families.
