RAWALPINDI: A woman and her daughter were found murdered in their house in Dhamial area on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

Suleman Ijaz, a resident of Gujranwala, registered an FIR with the police stating that his two sisters -- Roshani and Nomeen -- lived along with their mother in a rented house in Dhamial, Rawalpindi.

He said Roshani had a four-year-old son and a six-year-old daughter whereas his second sister Nomeen had been divorced with no children. He said he received a phone call at 11pm on Thursday that his mother and sister Nomeen had been murdered in their house.

He stated that he and his aunt left Gujranwala and reached Rawalpindi at around 4:15am. Upon their arrival, Roshani told him that both sisters had gone to Quaid-i-Azam Colony at around 8:30pm for some important work. Nomeen had returned home about an hour before Roshani.

Roshani further told her brother that when she returned home at around 11pm, she found the main gate locked from the inside. After knocking on the gate for some time, her six-year-old daughter unlocked it. Upon entering a room, Roshani found Nomeen lying on the floor with her head bleeding.

She said she began screaming and entered another room and found her mother’s body lying there. Her screams attracted the attention of neighbours who called the police.

The bodies were shifted to Benazir Bhutto Hospital and later transferred to the District Headquarters Hospital for postmortem. The complainant alleged that unidentified persons had killed his mother and sister for an unknown motive.

A police spokesman said that according to the initial investigation, one of the women appeared to have been strangled, while the other had sustained a head injury. However, the final cause of death would be determined in light of the postmortem reports. Teams from the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA) collected evidence from the scene.

The spokesman said the city police officer (CPO) reached the scene after receiving information along with other officers.

He added that investigations were being conducted from all angles and that those involved in the murders would be arrested and brought to justice.
