PM appoints Jawad Paul as SC registrar

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed Jawad Paul as registrar of the Supreme Court.

Mr Paul is currently posted as additional secretary at the Prime Minister Office and takes care of matters involving civil bureaucracy, etc.

He is a BS-21 officer but has been appointed to the BS-22 post of SC registrar under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973.

Under the law, the competent authority can appoint an officer to a post that’s in the next grade.

The Supreme Court has requisitioned Mr Paul’s services since incumbent SC registrar retired flight lieutenant Khawaja Daud Ahmad is attaining the age of superannuation on July 31.

According to a notification issued by the Establishment Division, “Mr Jawad Paul, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted as Additional Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, is transferred and his services are placed for a period of three years, under Section 10 of the Civil Servants Act, 1973, with effect from August 1, 2021.”

As per a list of senior officers of the PM Office, Mr Paul is next to Azam Khan, secretary to the PM, and was posted as additional secretary-I.

Earlier, he served as chief commissioner of Islamabad and then was posted to the Establishment Division.

The outgoing SC registrar is an officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service and he was working as additional SC registrar. He was promoted to BS-22 and appointed SC registrar on Dec 18, 2019.

Meanwhile, the Establishment Division has appointed Nadeem Mahbub as additional secretary at the PM Office.

A notification issued by the division said: “Mr Nadeem Mahbub, a BS-21 officer of Pakistan Administrative Service, presently posted under Government of Punjab, is transferred and posted as Additional Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office, with effect from August 1, 2021 and until further orders.”
