KARACHI, Oct 30: The City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, has said that playgrounds being used illegally for holding discount bazaars would be vacated to promote healthy sports activities in Karachi.

Action in this respect would be gradual, and where needed, discount bazaars would be provided alternate space, he told newsmen on the occasion of inauguration of a floodlight cricket match between Asghar Ali shah Club and AO Club at the Asghar Ali Shah stadium.

He said that besides holding discount bazaars, playgrounds had also been encroached upon by certain elements, adding that such encroachments would also be removed.

“The people of Karachi are civilized, they love sports and the fact could be testified by the exemplary discipline showed by them during the Indo-Pak cricket matches last year and on several other occasions,” he said.

“The city government will promote healthy sports activities and encourage youths to take active part in them,” he said.—PPI
