Iran has registered a new daily Covid caseload record, the health ministry has announced, as strict limitations to curb its spread went into effect in the capital Tehran, AFP reports.

In the past 24 hours, the country registered a record 27,444 new infections to bring its total number of positive cases to 3,576,148.

Covid-19 has killed more than 84,000 people out of over 3.2 million infections in Iran, according to official figures that authorities admit do not account for all cases.
