Canada will start allowing fully vaccinated US citizens and permanent residents into the country from Aug 9 for non-essential travel as the threat from the Covid-19 pandemic fades, Reuters quotes the Canadian government as saying.

Fully-vaccinated visitors from countries other than the US will be permitted to enter from Sep 7. The relaxation depends on Canada's Covid-19 epidemiology remaining favorable, the government said in a statement.

The US-Canadian land border, the world's longest, has been closed to non-essential travel since mid-March 2020 because of the coronavirus pandemic.
