Indian navy dismisses three officials

NEW DELHI, Oct 28: The Indian Navy on Friday dismissed from service three senior officials found guilty of leaking classified information from the Naval war room.

Captain Kashyap Kumar and Commanders Vinod Kumar Jha and Vijendra Rana, all from the Directorate of Naval Operations, were dismissed with immediate effect by invoking ‘the Presidents Pleasure Doctrine’ under the Navy Act without resorting to Court Martial, a Navy spokesman said.

Earlier a media report had said last month that some high-level Indian Naval officials, posted at the key Operations Directorate were indicted for allegedly leaking out classified information to commercial interests.

Quoting highly placed defence ministry sources, a news report had further stated that the Naval Board of Inquiry had found the officers guilty of ‘gross misconduct and impropriety’ in the case in which some computer disks containing classified information about naval acquisition had been found to have been leaked out to commercial parties.—APP
