KARACHI: Armed robbers shot dead a young man on main Rashid Minhas Road on Sunday, police said.

A Federal B Industrial Area police officer said that Waqar, 35, was on his way to Gulistan-i-Jauhar on a Bykea ride from his residence in Orangi Town when a tyre of the motorcycle got punctured near Lucky One.

In the meantime, four muggers riding two motorcycles emerged there and tried to snatch their mobile phones and Waqar tried to run away. The muggers fired at him and a bullet hit him in the leg. He was taken to a private hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding, said the officer.

Boy killed in robbers’ firing

A seven-year-old boy was killed and a man wounded in firing by robbers in Manghopir on Sunday.

West SSP Suhai Aziz said that four armed robbers entered the house of Malook Mehsood in Pakhtunabad. They were snatching cash when some family members offered resistance. The robbers opened fire on them and fled. As a result, Mehsood’s seven-year-old grandson, Salman, and son, Ibrahim, suffered bullet wounds in the face and leg, respectively. Salman died while the condition of Ibrahim was stated to be out of danger.

The SSP said that it appeared that the robbers did proper reconnaissance before committing the robbery. They entered the home from behind to avoid CCTV cameras installed at the front door.

The police were investigating the case.

Woman killed in celebratory fire

Some guests at a marriage ceremony resorted to firing into the air in Shah Faisal Colony on Saturday night but one of the bullets claimed the life of a woman.

Korangi SSP Shah Jahan Khan said that the incident took place in Shah Faisal Colony No.5 near Dhobi Ghaat. The woman was identified as Fozia Imran, 35. She received a bullet in the neck.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for medico-legal formalities.

Two persons were arrested and booked in a murder case, said the SSP.

‘Lyari gangster’ released on bail killed

A suspected gangster, who was recently released from prison on bail, was shot dead in Baghdadi on Saturday night, according to police.

They added that Abdul Naseer, 22, was shot dead by assailants riding a motorcycle at Dubai Chowk. The body was shifted to the Dr Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi.

A police officer said that the suspect was associated with Lyari’s Baba Ladla gang. He was arrested and sent to prison but got himself released on bail recently.

A murder case against unknown assailants was registered. The victim’s brother told the police that he had already broken relationship with his late brother after he joined the criminal gang.

Man shot dead in Sharafi Goth

A 58-year-old man was shot dead in Sharafi Goth on late Saturday night.

Police said that Wali Mohammed was shot and wounded in his home in Moinabad-I. He was shifted to the JPMC where he died during treatment.
