GUJRANWALA, Oct 27: Additional Sessions Judge Wamiq Javed on Thursday paid a visit to the central jail and ordered release of 51 accused involved in minor cases. During his visit, the judge checked the women and young barracks and death cells. He praised the authorities for imparting religious education to teenagers and women.
The judge ordered to solve problems being faced by death convicts without further delay.
Jail superintendent Malik Shaukat Farooq, the deputy-superintendent and other officials accompanied him.
ROBBERIES: Robbers looted the house of an industrialist, took away a motorcycle and injured a man on resistance in separate strikes in and around the city on Thursday.
Reports said five outlaws forced their entry into the house of Younas in Baghbanpur at Sehr. They held hostage the inmates and made off with Rs175,000 in cash, jewellery worth Rs200,000, a mobile phone and valuables.
Two motorcyclists intercepted Deputy Commissioner Colony security supervisor Khalid and took away Rs425,000 in cash from him at gunpoint. Khalid was on his way after withdrawing the cash from the bank.
The bandits also injured him on resistance. He was rushed to the DHQ hospital in a critical condition.
A landlord, Babar Ali, was deprived of his motorcycle by two robbers near Tetley.
ATC STAFF: The Anti-Terrorism Courts’ staff on Thursday demanded their salaries for the last four months before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Reports said the accounts office was not issuing the ATC employees’ salaries as the Punjab government had yet not released the funds for the purpose during the current fiscal year.
The staff members expressed concern on the extra ordinary delay in the disbursement of their salaries and said they were facing economic hardships due to non-payment of their dues.
They said that their families needed money to meet Eid expenditures.
