PESHAWAR: All the government and private schools across the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province will reopen from Thursday (today).

The elementary and secondary education department took the decision after the heatwave, which had hit a large part of the province, eased, coupled with reduction in Covid-19 positive rate, an official told Dawn on Wednesday.

All educational institutions will resume activities for the first time after their closure in March due to severity in the third Covid-19 wave. They were partially reopened in May.

It is to mention here that primary and middle schools were closed on previous Sunday in the summer zones due to hot weather conditions.

Meanwhile, according to a notification issued by the education department, the schools in winter zones will be opened with normal school timings, while schools in summer zones will be opened only for three hours from 7am to 10am.

“All public and private educational institutions (primary, middle, high and higher secondary) across the province are hereby reopened with immediate effect, with already notified standard operating procedures,” states the notification.

The union councils in the winter zones having high temperature will follow the schedule timing for the summer zone.

According to the notification, the education officers of the concerned districts in winter zones shall notify union councils/areas with high temperature for implementation of the schedule.
