NAROWAL: A group of people tortured a woman and a guest at her house they entered after scaling the boundary wall on the suspicion of an affair.

The suspects also made a video of violence they inflicted on the man after stripping him naked and uploaded it on social media.

The woman, a resident of Chak Nahra which is situated on the outskirts of Shakargarh tehsil, complained to police that on May 16, she and her seven-year-old daughter were at home when a relative came to see her. She said a group of influential people stormed her house and took them including the guest into a room where they tortured her and the visitor.

She alleged that the perpetrators stripped her guest naked and beat him with shoes and punched him. She said her entreaties failed to have any effect on the villagers who, she said, fled while warning them against pursuing any legal action.

The woman whose husband is abroad for employment said the assailants also blackmailed her by sending her the video of torture. As the video went viral on social media, the Chak Amro police registered a case against nine people on June 6.

Association of Human Rights’ Narowal president Mian Muhammad Rafique condemned the incident of abusing and torturing the woman and her guest and stripping him off in front of a seven-year-old girl. He demanded that Prime Minister Imran Khan and the chief justice of Pakistan take notice of the incident and bring the assailants to book.

Meanwhile, locals allege that police were colluding with the assailants and forcing the woman to go for mediation.

Police, on the other hand, claim to have arrested five of the suspects. Shakargarh DSP Malik Mohammad Khalil said raids were being conducted to arrest the absconders. He said anyone found guilty of the allegations would not be spared.
