LOWER DIR: Hundreds of residents of Kambat, Darangal and surrounding areas here on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against the Peshawar Electric Supply Company for its failure to ensure smooth power supply to the consumers.

JI’s Samarbagh youth wing arranged the demonstration after the Pesco authorities failed to resolve the issue of power supply to the consumers on alternate days.

The protesters were addressed by JI youth wing district president Mohammad Yusuf, tehsil president Mohammad Hayat and others.

They said that consumers belonging to upper parts of Jandol were facing the problem for years. They said that residents of Miskini Darra were provided electricity on one day while residents of Kambat and Darangal were provided it the following day turn by turn.

The speakers said the consumers had been paying their bills regularly and threatened to expand the protest if the issue was not resolved within a week.

TOURISM UPLIFT: Both Lower Dir and Upper Dir have great tourism potential and the government should take steps for promotion of tourism and development of the related infrastructure in the area, said Dir Overseas Pakistanis Association president Rahim Shah.

He was addressing a group of tourists, including students and teachers from different universities, at his residence in Shamar Din area of Dir here the other day.

Mr Shah said that successive governments had ignored the two districts despite their scenic spots and historical places. He said that development of tourism sector would provide job opportunities to thousands of local youths.
