KOHAT: The residents of Malangabad town have complained they have been without water supply for a month after the Water Supply and Sanitation Company cut electricity connection to the local tubewell over non-payment of water charges.

When contacted, the tubewell operator told Dawn on Tuesday that the WSSC had shut the tubewell a month ago on the pretext that the consumers did not pay water bills regularly.

The residents said they had to fetch drinking water from springs.

Meanwhile, a large number of Pesco consumers from Sumari, Chechanna, Jarma and Shahpur held a protest demonstration on Tuesday in front of the firm’s office against excessive loadshedding.

The protesters were led by former district nazim Naseem Afridi and elders.

The protesters chanted slogans against the Pesco staff for carrying out 15 hours long outages which had caused water shortage in the areas.

The Pesco staff assured them of trying to decrease the loadshedding duration.

REFUSAL CASES COVERED: The district administration covered eight polio refusal cases in Togh village-2 with the cooperation of the union council polio eradication committee on Tuesday.

Additional deputy commissioner Bashir Ahmed had received complaints from the polio staff that some villagers were constantly refusing administration of drops to their children.

He sent a team led by additional assistant commissioner-III Mohammad Iqbal, who engaged the elders and clerics in convincing the families to let their children administered the anti-polio drops to stay safe from the fatal disease.

All the eight cases were resolved and the children were administered drops by the polio team.
