RAWALPINDI: A man and woman were injured after being shot by car-lifters who were trying to escape in a stolen vehicle in New Town area on Sunday.

The suspects were being chased by owners of the car. It all started in the morning when some burglars broke into a house in the cantonment but the burglary attempt was foiled by the family.

After the suspects escaped from the cantonment, they tried to snatch a vehicle on Sixth Road and opened fire while escaping, resulting in injuries to a woman and a man who were passing by.

When the police arrived at the scene, the car-lifters managed to escape towards Islamabad. The Dolphin Force squad was not able to catch them and two officials received injuries during the chase after their motorcycle slipped.

He said both personnel were shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) where they are stated to be in stable condition. Police said the suspects left the vehicle in New Town and escaped towards Islamabad where they snatched another car (LEA-2657). However, they abandoned this vehicle as well and disappeared into the woods.

The spokesman said besides the SP New Town with Elite Force and Dolphin Squad, Islamabad police also reached the scene and launched a manhunt for the suspects.

However, till the filing of this report, the suspects were not traced.
