Tent-making on a war footing

Published October 25, 2005

LAHORE, Oct 24: Tent manufacturers in Punjab will make 210,000 tents for the earthquake-affected people on a war footing. This was disclosed during a meeting held here on Monday with Punjab Chief Secretary Salaman Siddiq in the chair to review arrangements for providing relief to the quake victims.

The provincial secretaries, director-general (relief), district coordination officer and representatives of tent manufacturers attended the meeting.

The chief secretary said the provincial government wanted to supply tents to the affected people by Nov 30 at all costs because it was the only way to protect them against the vagaries of weather. He said the government was ready to provide the necessary financial assistance and resources to the manufacturers for timely completion of the task.

The manufacturers assured the chief secretary that they would ensure production of the required number of tents within the specified time as it was their national and moral duty.
