ISLAMABAD: A police patrolling team shot and injured two persons in the rural area of the capital.

Over the incident, a case was registered at the Koral police station against a sub-inspector in response to a complaint lodged by Babar Hussain, one of the injured.

According to the first information report (FIR), Hussain along with Raja Sumail was going home in Tarlai from Nilore after attending a marriage ceremony. The sub-inspector allegedly opened fire on their car near Sultana Foundation.

As a result, both were injured. A passerby called the police who reached the spot after 15 to 20 minutes. The car was searched and nothing was found from it. Later, the injured were shifted to hospital, it added.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Dr Mustafa Tanweer told Dawn that he had ordered an inquiry into the incident.He said the patrolling team signaled the car to stop on suspicion, however, the driver sped away. The police chased the vehicle and then fired on it.

Only one bullet was fired which injured both the persons in the car, he added.
