MARDAN: A constable and a minor girl were killed and two other policemen injured when motorcyclists opened fire on a police patrol in Mohallah Saidan Babozai in Katlang tehsil on Friday night.

Katlang police station officials said the police mobile was on routine duty in the area.

They said the policemen signaled two persons riding a motorcycle to stop for checking. As the cops moved for checking the men, one of them opened fire, killing constable namely Israr on the spot. A minor girl, who was passing by the area, and two other police personnel also received multiple injuries in the firing.

The police returned the fire, killing one of the accused identified as Adam Khan. However, his unknown accomplice fled the scene.

The injured girl named Yusra died while being shifted to hospital. The two injured police officials identified as Munir and Mansoor were rushed to the Mardan Medical Complex Hospital.

The Counter-Terrorism Department (Mardan region) registered FIR on the complaint of ASI Shah Hussain against the slain accused and his unknown accomplice.

A contingent of police reached the spot and started search operation to arrest the runaway accused.
