Child, man die as roof caves in after gas leakage blast

KARACHI: A child and a man died while seven people were injured when the roof of the top floor of a multistorey building in Liaquatabad caved in late on Wednesday night after a “cylinder blast”, said officials.

The condition of two children was stated to be serious.

According to Deputy Commissioner Central Dr M.B. Raja Dharejo, the family was involved in some repair work of AC (air conditioners) on the top floor of the building in Liaquatabad-9 when the gas leakage took place triggering explosion that caused collapse of the roof of the building.

However, further investigation was under way.

The official claimed that all rescue teams and ambulances were mobilised within five minutes and within 20 minutes, injured people were rescued.

The DC Central himself attended the rescue operation and shifted all the victims to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital. Two people, including a child and a young man, lost their lives.

The DC said among the injured were four children and out of them, the condition of two was critical.

“Teams of SBCA [Sindh Building Control Auth­ority] have been called to inspect the building and the area.”

Cylinder blast

Liaquatabad SHO Rizwan Patel said a cylinder blast took place in the flat that caused the deaths of two persons while seven people were injured.

The deceased were identified as Abdul Hadi, six, and Asif Waseem, 35.

The injured were identified as Anna Faizan, 25; Zain Farhan, six; Noor Fatima Imran, two; Zainab Imran, three; Danish Naseem, 35; Kashan Ashraf, 20 and Dua Arshad, five.

Woman falls victim to ‘honour killing’

A 35-year-old woman fell victim to so-called honour killing on the outskirts of the city on Thursday.

Shah Latif Town police said that Aliya was shot and killed allegedly by her husband Gul Mohammed in Hasan Panhwar Goth.

The suspect escaped from the crime scene.

The body was taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre to fulfil medico-legal formalities.

Area SHO Nek Mohammed Khoso said it was the second marriage of the victim from whom she had a girl child.

From her previous marriage, she had two children — a son and daughter. The officer said that the murder appeared to be the outcome of “honour killing”.
