KARACHI, Jan 22: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has once again snubbed Pakistan’s request saying Anti-Corruption Unit (ACU) sleuths cannot be kept away from Sharjah.

A spokesman of the ICC said Tuesday that the security arrangements (in Sharjah) put in place by the Cricketers Benefit Fund Series (CBFS), after detailed consultations with the ACU, “will be applied to Pakistan vs West Indies series.

“(It) will be in the same way as they have been applied during recent Sharjah tournament, in which Pakistan has of course participated,” the spokesman said in a statement.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) had last week demanded the ICC to consider Pakistan as the host board for the Sharjah Tests and keep ICC sleuths away.

The ACU has been given the mandate to use surveillance cameras in the team hotel and dressing rooms, security guards and questioning of players guests on “non-regular venues” like Sharjah, Toronto and Canada.

ICC’s latest snub to the PCB will not be taken well by the Pakistan board.

As regards PCB demand for compensation from losses from the Sharjah series, the ICC said the issue would be discussed at the executive board meeting scheduled for Feb 12 and 13 at Christchurch.

“(The) ICC management has no authority to make decisions of that sort as it is a major policy matter affecting the finances of other members,” he said.
