GUJRANWALA: Twelve members of a family, seven children among them, were killed when their van veered into a canal at Qila Deedar Singh on Eid (Thursday).

The family was going to Khanqah Dorgan to celebrate Eid with their relatives when their van fell into canal. Locals and professional divers tried to save the car occupants but they drowned. The deceased included Chand Afzal, 42, Sadia Afzal, 40, Abu Huraira Afzal, 17, Saad Afzal, 13, Hassan Afzal, 9, Munawar Bibi, 70, Madiha Imran, 12, Rehan Imran, 10, and Kiran, 7.

Seven people were laid to rest at Qila Deedar Singh and four at Gujranwala.

In an accident on GT Road near Wazirabad, six people died and five others were injured.

A group of people was returning home from Lodhran when a car reportedly driven by an underage driver hit their vehicle. Six of them died on the spot while five others were injured and shifted to the DHQ Hospital in a critical condition.

CASES: The city traffic police registered 52 cases of violations during Eid days.

CTO Sohail Fazl said the traffic police put in their best efforts to ensure compliance of rules and regulations. He urged the people to follow Covid-19 SOPs and restrictions.
