PESHAWAR: The Michni Gate police have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his wife for honor in Darmangi area on the outskirts of the provincial capital.

A police spokesperson said the accused had murdered his wife on Sunday. He said the accused was trying to flee the area when the police arrested him during a raid.

The official said the accused admitted to killing his wife for honor during initial interrogation. The police have registered FIR against him on the complaint of a brother of the slain woman.

The complainant told the police that the alleged killer used to accuse his wife of being in contact with someone on phone.

The complainant said some days ago the family members had traced the man accused of making the calls to the woman, and admitted before the arrested man that he was in contact with a female member of the accused’s family, but not his wife.

Afterwards, the complainant said the accused assured them that all his suspicions regarding his wife had been removed, and that he would not level any allegations against his wife.

However, the complainant said, the accused phoned them the very next day saying that his wife had committed suicide.

The complainant told the police that his sister was barley 20 years old and mother of three daughters, and could not think of taking her life.
