Saudi Arabia assures Pakistan of support in peace efforts

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Arabia on Wednesday assured Pakistan of its support in its initiatives for regional peace and stability.

The assurance was extended by Chief of General Staff (CGS), Saudi Armed Forces, Gen Fayiadh Bin Hamed Al Rowaily during a meeting with Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Bajwa.

Gen Bajwa is currently on a four-day visit to the Kingdom. His trip is taking place ahead of Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit scheduled to start from Friday.

“CGS KSA … assured full cooperation and support from KSA in all initiatives aimed at improving regional cooperation, peace and stability,” the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement on the meeting.

According to the military’s media affairs wing, the two commanders discussed regional security situation including Afghan peace process, and military-to-military bilateral cooperation.

Gen Bajwa called for greater military-to-military cooperation between the armed forces of the two countries and said it would positively impact regional peace and security.

Well done Pakistan! if western powers had taken the Pakistan advise some 20 years ago,the whole Afghan fiasco could have been avoided. but law of nature always prevails! Pakistan was right not get into Yaman's tragedy and it paid off. show some spine to standup to your belief pays off in long terms!

Why sudden change of hearts? Few months back Gen. Bajwa visited Saudis and was not able to meet any noticeable personality. Saudis/ UAE invited Pakistani military/ political personalities at the instructions of someone or they really want to improve bilateral relationship?Biden administration urging both these countries to improve relationship with Pakistan to safe guard interest of US,/ to reduce influence of China? That is yet to be known.

Clearly, Saudis are pondering whether or how to stop their foolish war in Yemen and how to extract their forces without giving the Houthis an upper hand to attack the Kingdom as the Saudi forces pull back. Much as the Afghan government is worried about the return of the Talibans as the US and NATO forces withdraw in the coming weeks. Saudis are feeling very insecure and need Pakistan's aid in talking to the Iranians to negotiate an end to their miserable involvement in Yemen. It is that simple.
