MITHI, Jan 22: The Nazims and councillors as well as former MNAs and MPAs of Thar have lauded President Pervez Musharraf’s address to the nation and the government’s decision to abolish separate electorates, hold the election under the joint electorates system, and increase the number of National Assembly seats.

While talking to this correspondent on the telephone from Rana Jagir, Umerkot, the other day and offering his views on the restoration of joint electorates by the government, former MNA Rana Chandar Singh contended that the decision was in accordance with Article 12 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, hence it could be said to be a step in the right direction under which the people of minority communities were considered to be equal citizens of the state.

The district Tharparkar Nazim, Arbab Attaullah, said that nobody should be discriminated on the basis of caste or religion.
