TOBA TEK SINGH, Oct 20: After the busting of two gangs of dacoits operating on both banks of the river Ravi, the largest forest in Punjab near Kamalia, the area is almost completely purged from hideouts of criminals.

This was claimed by DPO Akhtar Laleka while talking to reporters here on Thursday.

He said that several members of the Ali Raza gang, including ring leader Ali Raza, his father Zahoor Shah and his brother Hasan Raza, had already been killed in encounters at Burewala and in the forest about a year back.

Later, his another brother Aftab Shah formed a new gang the members of which used to take shelter in this forest after committing crimes.

The DPO said that a special police team, comprising Kamalia, Pirmahal and Chuttiana police stations, finally succeeded in arresting Aftab Shah and his accomplices on Wednesday night after a two-month long operation. They were wanted by various police stations in murder, dacoity, kidnap for ransom and encounter cases.

The DPO revealed that farmers in dozens of villages in Toba and Khanewal districts took a sigh of relief after the busting of these dacoits’ gangs.

DEATH SENTENCE: A local court on Thursday handed down death sentence to an accused and life-term to another in a murder case.
