KARACHI, Oct 20: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement on Thursday claimed that it had sent relief goods worth Rs 500 million to the quake-hit areas for rehabilitation and immediate assistance to victims in NWFP and Azad Kashmir.

This was stated by Shaikh Liaqut Hussain, head of the Khidmat-i-Khalq Foundation of the MQM in a news conference which was called for giving details of the 11-day operation launched by the MQM.

He gave the details of the field hospitals and other relief camps set up by the MQM in the quake-hit areas of Mansehra, Balakot, Bagh, Muzaffarabad, Kaghan, Rawlakot and other areas.

Shaikh Liaquat said that the MQM had mobilised its cadre and resources for collecting and transporting aid to the victims by road, air and through train.

He said that as relief work was a long-term process, the KKF would continue its efforts as directed by the founder of the MQM, Altaf Hussain.

Another batch of 25 MQM volunteers left by Tezgam for the quake affected areas on Thursday. These volunteers would join the other medical relief teams and assist them in their humanitarian work.

Meanwhile, the MQM leadership, including Dr Farooq Sattar, and Anwar Alam, visited the earthquake victims being treated at the field hospital set up by the MQM in Mansehra.
