NORTH WAZIRISTAN: Residents of Makeen in South Waziristan tribal district called off their protest after talks between Inspector General Frontier Corps (South) Maj-Gen Umar Bashir and elders of Mehsud tribe on Thursday, officials said.

Hundreds of inhabitants of Makeen organised a sit-in protest near Tehsil Building against the killing of two youths, allegedly by paramilitary personnel three days ago. The residents had also laid bodies of the slain boys named Kalam Din and Inam Ullah in front of the Tehsil Building.

Officials said that elders of Mehsud tribe held talks with Maj-Gen Bashir at the official compound in Tank. After talks, the elders met protesters in Makeen following which the protest was called off and bodies of the slain boys were buried.

Under the agreement, the legal heirs of the deceased would get Shuhada Package and the government would pay Rs2 million compensation to each of victims’ families. Eligible members of the affected families would be given jobs.

They agreed that the paramilitary forces would vacate residential compounds and avoid unnecessary use of drone cameras. Also, the FC men allegedly involved in the killing of the youth had been nominated in the FIR.
