KARAK: A policeman was killed and another received injuries when armed persons attacked them in Wargha Banda area of Banda Daud Shah tehsil.

Police sources said here on Monday that two policemen identified as Tasawar Khan and Salahuddin were going on their motorbike in a remote area of Banda Daud Shah when some armed persons opened indiscriminate firing on them.

As a result, both the policemen received critical injuries. They were being shifted to district headquarters hospital Karak when Salahuddin succumbed to his injuries. Tasawar Khan was admitted to the hospital in precarious condition.

Soon after the incident, police launched an operation in the area. Police claimed to have arrested four persons identified as Zahoor, Shams, Zakirullah and Nasir Zaman allegedly involved in the attack. Police also recovered weapons from their possessions.

DROWNED: Two teenage cousins drowned in a rain-fed dam and their bodies were retrieved by personnel of Rescue 1122 and local divers after hectic efforts.

Police sources said that two first cousins identified as Mudassar, 16, and Abid, 18, were taking bath in the dam to beat the heat when all of sudden Mudassar went into deep water where he drowned. Abid tried to save him but he himself drowned in the deep water.

The local people informed Rescue 1122 about the incident and they reached the spot. After hectic efforts of few hours, the personnel of Rescue 1122 along with local divers fished out their bodies.

They were shifted to district headquarters hospital Karak where the doctors pronounced them dead.
