QUETTA: Journalists on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Balochistan Assembly after boycotting the proceedings to protest the murder of journalist Abdul Wahid Raisani and demanded immediate arrest of the killers.

Abdul Wahid Raisani, reporter and sub-editor of Urdu newspaper Daily Azadi, was shot dead by unknown attackers on Saturday night.

As the assembly session started, journalists present in the media room and the press gallery stood up, walked out of the assembly and gathered outside the building. They carried placards and banners inscribed with slogans condemning the attack and demanding immediate arrest of the killers.

Education Minister Sardar Yar Mohammad Rind joined the protest and expressed solidarity with the journalists. He assured them of complete support and cooperation.

The call for the protest and boycott of the provincial assembly session was given by the Balochistan Union of Journalists.
