Pakistan has reported the third highest number of coronavirus deaths this year during the last 24 hours with 144 fatalities.

The country had reported 149 deaths on April 17 and 147 on April 20. According to the NCOC data, 149 deaths were second only to the casualty figure of June 20 last year when 153 people fell victim to the virus.

Punjab reported the highest number of casualties during the last 24 hours with 81 deaths, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 39.

Breakdown of deaths and cases reported during last 24 hours:

  • Punjab: 3,032 cases, 81 deaths
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 1,171 cases, 39 deaths
  • Sindh: 734 cases, 14 deaths
  • Islamabad: 617 cases, 3 deaths
  • Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 167 cases, 6 deaths
  • Balochistan: 123 cases, 1 death
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 26 cases
