MANSEHRA: Two personnel of the Frontier Works Organisation were killed when a pickup vehicle fell into a deep ravine in Kiru area of Lower Kohistan district on Saturday.

The accidentoccurred on the Karakoram Highway after the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn on the way to Rawalpindi from Gilgit.

The vehicle carried the personnel of the FWO’s 141 Road Maintenance Battalion.

The locals and Rescue 1122 workers retrieved bodies and shifted them to the Pattan Civil Hospital.

The bodies of Mohammad Maaz and Khalid Butt were later sent to their respective towns for burial.

TEACHERS APPOINTED: The education department has recruited 67 certified teachers to fill vacancies in schools.

District education officer (female) Nagmana Sardar told reporters here on Saturday that educational documents of those teachers would be verified by a committee on April 20 leading to their posting to schools with CT vacancies.

She said the entire recruitment exercise was carried out by the National Testing Service without the department’s involvement to ensure fairness.

Meanwhile, assistant commissioner Jawad Sardar Marwat paid a surprise visit to the central warehouse of the Utility Stores Corporation and checked the quantity and quality of the subsidised commodities, including sugar, ghee and wheat flour.

He also examined stock register.

FINED: The administration fined around a dozen butchers in Mansehra and its outskirts for selling beef at prices higher than the official ones.

The action led by assistant commissioner Hasrat Khan was carried out on Abbottabad Road, Kashmir Road and Shinkiari Road.

Mr Hasrat said the butchers caught overcharging customers for the second time would be put behind bars besides being fined.
