LOWER DIR: Talash Dushkhel Qaumi Islahi Jirga, a dispute resolution body of local elders, here on Friday demanded of the Lower Dir administration and police department to stop raiding houses of local people allegedly involved in torching the house of a killer at Ahmad GalaiTalash.

It demanded an end to raids on homes of locals and warned to bring people on roads if the demand was not accepted. The jirga meeting was held at a local hotel with its president Malik Taj Mohammad in the chair.

The jirga’s former presidents Mohammad Ibrahim, Mohammad Israr and Malik Taj Mohammad and former tehsil nazim Riaz Mohammad addressed the meeting and gave suggestions for the future course of action. It was decided that the elders would meet deputy commissioner Aun Haider Gondal to brief him on the situation and if the issue was not resolved within the district, the provincial and regional officers would be contacted.

The meeting expressed anger over the incident that took place in Ahmed Galai Talash in which a local youth was killed and his father was shot and injured.

The speakers said the house of the accused was set on fire by the enraged people, as it was not possible to control the emotions at that time. The jirga demanded that ‘harassment’ of the locals named in the FIR should be stopped immediately.
