ISLAMABAD: In the first 100 days of this year, 181 traffic accidents occurred in which 319 people were injured and 146 passed away – significantly less as compared to the previous year, according to the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP).

In the first 100 days of last year, 615 people were injured and 181 were killed in 322 traffic accidents on motorways and national highways.

To ensure a safe journey for commuters is NHMP’s most important mandate. Due to efforts of the highway police, accidents on national highways and motorways in the first 100 days of 2021 reduced by 44pc compared to 100 days of last year. In a short period after its inception, the NHMP displayed remarkable results in reducing road accidents, both fatal and non-fatal, thus saving and preserving precious lives.

The motorway police claimed to have achieved another hallmark in service delivery by increasing enforcement by 52pc in the first 100 days of 2021, compared to the first 100 days of 2020.

During this period, 3,523,762 tickets were issued over traffic violations while the police imposed 1,637,784,813 fines as compared to 2,315,799 violations last year for which 1,069,745,569 fines were imposed.
