LAKKI MARWAT: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Food Safety and Halal Food Authority officials sealed a beverages factory in Domel area of Bannu on Saturday over production of substandard soft drinks.

An official said a team led by the authority’s assistant director Mohammad Bilal raided the factory and seized 5,000 litres of substandard drinks, and sealed it on the spot.

The food authority officials also sealed a bakery in the Naurang town of Lakki Marwat district over unhygienic conditions and use of substandard raw material.

Separately, the Bannu district administration on Saturday seized a huge quantity of polythene bags during an action launched in the city on the directives of deputy commissioner Mohammad Zubair Niazi .

An official said assistant commissioners Osman Ashraf and Shaukat Ali led the operation.

He said over 1,000 kilogrammes of plastic bags were seized from shops and warehouses in the city as the use of polythene bags is banned.

Also, the Lakki administration officials sealed 10 shops and arrested over a dozen shopkeepers and transporters over violation of SOPs in Naurang and Lakki towns.

In Lakki city, assistant commissioner Umer Bin Riaz during inspection of bus terminals ordered arrest of several drivers and cleaners of public transport vehicles for not adhering to the Covid-19 protocols.

He directed traffic wardens to sensitise drivers and commuters to the importance of SOPs for their own and others’ safety.

In Naurang town, additional assistant commissioner Aminullah Khan sealed 10 shops and ordered arrest of 15 shopkeepers over violation of Covid-19-induced SOPs and the weekend closure of markets.

ARREST: The police on Saturday arrested a man in injured condition from the district headquarters hospital after he along with accomplices opened fire on a police party in Tajazai area late Friday night.

An official said Ghaznikhel police came across armed men during patrol in Tajazai. The armed men opened fire on the cops and disappeared taking advantage of darkness.

Later, the police learnt that one of the armed men identified as Sher Wahab had been brought to the DHQ hospital in injured condition. Later, he was arrested.
