SHANGLA: The residents of Shangla have demanded provision of CT Scan machine at the District Headquarters Hospital, Alpuri.

Talking to reporters here, they said about 500-600 patients daily visited the hospital’s outpatient department.

Ali Bhash Khan, a local resident, said due to unavailability of CT Scan machine they were forced to avail the facility in Swat hospitals at great expenditure.

He said there was no CT Scan facility in the entire district. He said in most cases doctors considered CT Scan mandatory in medical examination of patients.

Mohammad Gul, a resident of Mian Kalay, said the hospital also suffered frequent electricity outages as it lacked a dedicated power line. He said patients also faced problems due to shortage of specialist doctors.

Dr Sharifullah Saqib, a spokesperson of the hospital, told Dawn on contact that several requests to the quarters concerned had been made for making available the CT Scan machine in the health facility, but to no avail.

He admitted that posts of doctors had long been lying vacant, saying the hospital management had submitted demands for filling the vacancies.

He said they had also requested for a special power supply line for the hospital.
