DACCA: The Martial Law authorities in East Pakistan have taken adequate measures to meet the situation created by armed infiltrators and gun-running across the Indian border in aid of anti-state and secessionist elements. A convoy of about nine vehicles loaded with arms and ammunition heading towards Shamshernagar was destroyed by Pakistan forces. There have been further reports of armed infiltration into Thakargaon from across the Indian border. The situation in Dacca and the countryside is calm and there has been no report of any incident from anywhere. There was greater attendance in Government and semi-Government offices in Dacca today [April 3]. — Agencies

[Meanwhile, as reported by agencies in Lahore] Mr Mahmud Ali Qusuri, Vice-Chairman, Pakistan People’s Party, today [April 3] urged the Government of Pakistan to give serious consideration to … extending recognition to the provisional governments of Mizoland and Nagaland which had launched a relentless struggle against the Indian yoke. ... [He] said India’s hatred against Pakistan had never been in any doubt, but the frenzy of its reaction to the recent events in East Pakistan “had surpassed all her past performances”.
