LAHORE, Oct 16: The Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) will donate 25,000 tents and set up three tent villages in the quake-affected areas of Azad Kashmir. The party’s Amir, Qazi Hussain Ahmed, made the announcement while addressing office-bearers and volunteers of the party at the AJK Central Relief Office in Muzaffarabad on Sunday.

According to a JI press release, Qazi Hussain arrived in the capital of the AJK on Sunday morning to review the relief work undertaken by the party and assess the needs of the quake-hit people. He is scheduled to visit Bagh and Rawalakot on Monday.

Qazi Hussain was accompanied by Sardar Mohammad Afzal Khan, Amir of JI, AJK; Azhar Iqbal Ahsan, acting Amir of JI Punjab, and Amirul Azim, secretary-general of the party’s Lahore chapter.

He said about a thousand JI volunteers, taking part in relief work, would also work on long-term rehabilitation projects.

Mr Hussain directed the JI volunteers to set up small teams for distributing relief goods in the make-shift tent village.

He stressed the need for systematic distribution of relief goods and said that proper delivery of “people’s amanat” was like carrying out jihad in the path of the Almighty.—PPI
