KOHAT: A man committed suicide by taking the pesticide killing pills in Landi Khel area here on Sunday, the police said.

They said the victim, Shafique Afridi, took his life after having a quarrel with his elder son over a land dispute. He was taken to hospital where doctors washed his stomach but he could not survive.

The police said Shafique’s forefathers had migrated to Landi Khel area of Bilitang from Jawaki region of Darra Adamkhel tribal subdivision, where they had bought land for farming.

In a related development, a man identified as Shafarish Khan belonging to Sayab area of Kohat attempted to end his life by taking poisonous pills, but his life was saved by timely washing of his stomach by doctors at a hospital.

Separately, the police claimed to have arrested a suspected man and a woman in connection with the murder of a four-year-old girl a few days ago.

Officials said CCTV footage showed that a woman wearing a shuttlecock veil taking the little girl away from her house. The footage, the officials said, showed that after some time the same woman could be seen running away, adding the police had also arrested some women living in the neighbourhood of the victim girl.

The officials claimed that a police special committee formed to solve the case had reached the criminals involved in the gruesome incident.
