BENONI, Oct 15: New Zealand bounced back from a poor start to defeat South Africa A by 19 runs under Duckworth/ Lewis method in opening game of their cricket tour. Craig McMillan hit 105 off 106 balls as New Zealand recovered from 42 for four wickets to reach a commanding 273 for nine wickets in opening game of their South Africa tour.

McMillan and James Marshall (64) were involved in a partnership of 161 in 29 overs.

Jacques Rudolph hit 73 in response for the home team but it was not enough as a thunderstorm washed out last seven overs.

Tyron Henderson was star for South Africans, with figures of 5-38. But his good work to remove McMillan was undone when Andre Adams blasted a quickfire 32 in 18 runs before losing his wicket with final ball of the innings.

New Zealand opening bowlers Shane Bond and Kyle Mills then relished conditions and reduced South Africa A to just 22 runs off first 13 overs.

But Rudolph and Zander de Bruyn (40) gave hosts some hope by adding 76 for third wicket.

They were given a slight glimmer of victory when Albie Morkel blasted 48 not out off 28 deliveries before the heavens opened.
