SUKKUR, Oct 15: The mother of Abdul Hameed Chang, who was declared arrested along with Mohammad Ismail, by the Rohri police, on the alleged charges of terrorism, disclosed that her son was arrested 11 months ago.

Speaking at a joint press conference at the Sukkur Press Club on Saturday, along with Abdul Rauf Chang, Pucca Chang union council nazim Ameer Hussain Chang, Safiullah Chang, brother of Hafiz Khan Mohammad Chang, two minor children of Hafiz Khan Mohammad Chang and Abdul Hameed Chang, she termed the police version a “bundle of lie”.

She said that Hafiz Khan Mohammad was arrested along with Abdul Hameed Chang 11 months ago and his whereabouts were still not known. She said that they were the residents of village Mohammad Hassan Chang, near Pucca Chang, Khairpur and on December 21, 2004 armed people in civvies, boarded in eight vehicles, cordoned our village and arrested Abdul Hameed Chang and his uncle Hafiz Khan Mohammad Chang. Blindfolded, they were taken to an undisclosed place.

She also showed newspaper clippings of December 22, 2004 regarding their arrest.

She said that in this connection they contacted senior police officials and sent telegrams but no clue was found.

She told newsmen that on Friday she saw a news bulletin over a TV channel, through which they came to know that police have shown the arrest of Abdul Hameed Chang as terrorist and member of banned Harkat-ul-Mujahideen-i-Islami, while whereabouts of Hafiz Khan Mohammad were still not known.

The mother of Abdul Hameed Chang said that they were poor people and police were trying to link her innocent son with banned organization while terming him terrorist.

She said that her son was the member of Hur Mujahid Battalion 606 and served for 12 years in the force and four years ago he was retired from the force as he has become diabetic.

It may be recalled that yesterday Rohri police captured two members of the banned extremist group Harkat-e-Jehaad-e-Islami, from Rohri bypass and allegedly recovered huge quantity of arms and ammunition from their possession.

Police sources said both the activists were identified as Abdul Hameed Chang and Mohammad Ismail.

The DPO told that during investigation both the activists confessed that they were involved in various terrorist activities throughout the country under masterminds Amjad Farooqui, Sharafat alias Khaliq Fauji and Suhail Habib.

Police sources further said that Amjad Farooqui was killed last year in an encounter with the police in Nawabshah, while Suhail Habib and Sharafat alias Khaliq Fauji were arrested in Karachi on March 2, 2005 and October 8, 2005, respectively.

These arrests were a big success towards the operation against terrorism, police sources claimed.

KILLED IN CLASH: One person was killed and two others injured in an armed clash between Maitlo and Abro communities in the jurisdiction of Ahmed Pur police station, Khairpur district on Friday morning.

The Abro and Maitlo communities were dagger drawn over a piece of land, and on Friday, both the groups clashed with each other and used firearms.

As a result, one Nabi Bux s/o Jan Mohammad Abro was killed on the spot while Ghulam Nabi and another were injured and shifted to the local hospital.

A minor boy was injured as a result of clash between Kalhoro and Jatoi tribesmen over an old enmity, in the Nirch village, near Pano Akil, late on Thursday night.

As a result of the clash, a minor boy Mir Zaman 5, was injured and shifted to the Civil Hospital, Sukkur.
