LUCKNOW, Oct 15: Authorities imposed a curfew on a town in Uttar Pradesh after three people died in communal clashes on Friday. The clashes occurred in Mau district, 300kms southeast of Lucknow, when members of one community objected to a religious ceremony by another community in their area.

“Shoot-on-sight orders have been issued and people have been asked to stay indoors after communal rioting killed three persons in Mau,” UP government’s spokesman said.

“Twenty-six others have been injured and they have been admitted to hospital.”

Rioters used firearms, killing two people, and one man died when police opened fire.
