KARACHI: A sessions court acquitted on Tuesday chief of the defunct Peoples Amn Committee Uzair Jan Baloch and 10 others in cases pertaining to attacking a police station, encounter, attempt to murder and terrorism in 2012.

Uzair, the alleged Lyari kingpin, with 16 other accused persons was charged with attacking a police station and encounter with police with the intention to kill them during the law enforcers’ operation against criminals in the strife-torn Lyari in April 2012.

Uzair Baloch, who is facing trial in around 60 criminal cases pending before sessions and antiterrorism courts, has so far been acquitted in around 12 cases lodged between 2012 and 2013.

On Tuesday, additional district and sessions judge (South) Faraz Ahmed Chandio pronounced his verdict.

The judge noted that the prosecution failed to prove the allegations against the accused persons.

Therefore, the judge allowed an application filed by detained PAC chief Uzair Baloch, under Section 365-K of the Criminal Procedure Code, seeking his acquittal in the case pertaining to the attack on the Kalri police station due to lack of evidence to establish his role in the commissioning of the alleged crime.
