FAISALABAD, Oct 14: National Urban Poverty Alleviation Programme city manager Mohammad Tassawwar Waris and National Council for Human Rights executive director Rao Zafar Iqbal have urged the philanthropists and other people to adopt the children orphaned in the quake.
Talking to newsmen after visiting some relief centres here on Friday, they said scores of children had become orphans in Northern Areas and Azad Kashmir. They said the people should come forward and adopt these children for their bright future otherwise they would become mentally sick.
They also urged the citizens to donate generously for the funds set up by the government and private organizations so that relief goods could be provided to the quake victims through a systematic channel.
RELIEF FUND: The Serena Hotels Pakistan has set up a voluntary relief fund for the quake victims.
Serena’s spokesperson Saadia Abbas told newsmen here on Friday that the guests who wished to voluntarily participate in the fund would be charged one per cent extra to their bills. The Serena hotels would match the amount thereby doubling the contribution, she said.
Serena employees have contributed their one-day salary to the fund.
