LONDON, Oct 13: Pace bowler Chris Tremlett on Thursday became the second England quick to pull out of this winter’s tour to Pakistan.

The 24-year-old, who has failed to recover from a hamstring injury, was selected in the original 17-man squad - along with Glamorgan bowler Simon Jones who was ruled out earlier this month — but failed to come through fitness training this week.

However, selectors have chosen not to replace him in the touring party, which leaves for the sub-continent on Oct 25.

Durham fast bowler Liam Plunkett, initially selected in the one-day squad, has already been promoted to the Test squad to replace Jones.

“Chris has been suffering from hamstring tendinitis behind his right knee on and off for most of the season and unfortunately he wasn’t able to progress his training this week in a way that was necessary to make himself available for the tour to Pakistan,” said the England and Wales Cricket Board chief medical officer Peter Gregory.

“It was hoped that Chris would respond sufficiently to a period of rest and injections prior to his training at the National Cricket Centre this week but unfortunately this has not been the case.

“There will be ongoing consultation with specialists regarding Chris’ injury and he will continue to undergo rehabilitation and assessment by the ECB medical staff at the National Cricket Centre in the hope that he will be fit for the tour to India.”—AFP
