LAHORE: The Academic Council of the King Edward Medical University called an exclusive meeting to pay tribute to Mayo Hospital chief executive officer and former vice chancellor of the KEMU Prof Asad Aslam Khan on his retirement.

The meeting was presided over by KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal and faculty members of the varsity.

According to a press release issued on Saturday, the meeting’s main agenda was to say farewell to Prof Aslam in recognition to his services on attaining the age of superannuation.

On the occasion, Prof Gondal said Prof Aslam had been associated with the prestigious institute for more than 42 years, as a student, doctor and a teacher, bringing a good name for his alma mater.

“I have four-decade long relationship with Prof Asad Aslam and I believe that everyone who leaves this historic institution should be given a graceful send-off. We are all like a family. We are students and teachers of the KEMU,” Prof Gondal said.

He said the doctors trained by Prof Khan were now serving not only within Pakistan but all over the world.

He especially lauded Prof Aslam’s services for the College of Ophthalmology and Allied Vision Sciences. His real award was the charity and the provision of quality service delivery to the suffering humanity, he added.

While lauding the services of Prof Aslam, KEMU registrar Dr Riasat said the varsity’s faculty members had been enjoying a prestigious position among the medical professionals.

On the occasion, Prof Aslam said he had unconditional love and respect for his alma mater and the Mayo Hospital.

“It was the glory and respect of the KEMU that we all have been honoured all over the world,” he said.

He said during his long career, he was many times offered appointments as head of some other medical institutions but he refused because he wanted to work for the KEMU till his retirement.

“I am grateful to KEMU Vice Chancellor Prof Khalid Masood Gondal for convening the meeting of the academic council for my farewell,” Prof Aslam said.

In the end, on behalf of the KEMU faculty, Prof Gondal presented a commemorative shield to Prof Aslam.
