KARACHI: A young man shot at and wounded a young woman before killing himself in Lines Areas on Tuesday, police said.

They added that a young woman and a man were found lying wounded on the service road along a bus terminal near M.A. Jinnah Road minutes after local people heard multiple gunshots.

“Initially it was not clear what happened that led to serious gun wounds to both the [victims],” said a police official. “The wounded couple was immediately taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre where the man died while the woman was moved to the operating theatre for surgery. The deceased was identified as 22-year-old Malik Shahzeb, who hailed from Chakwal, while the wounded woman was identified as 25-year-old Aiman, who worked as a hostess at one of the intercity transport companies.”

The situation became clear when several witnesses emerged and told the police about the incident.

They said that the couple were on a motorcycle and they pulled up at the service lane.

“After some heated arguments, the man took out a pistol and fired multiple shots at the woman before pointing his gun to his head,” said the official while quoting eyewitnesses.

“The woman suffered multiple bullet wounds but survived. She is being treated at the JPMC though doctors said that her condition is very critical. The deceased suffered a single gunshot wound on his head.”
