ISLAMABAD: The district administration on Saturday sealed Islamabad Model School for Girls (IMSG) G-7/2 after Covid-19 cases surfaced there, making it the first institution in the capital to be closed since their opening on Jan 18.
On the other hand, one person died of Covid-19 in Islamabad and 139 tested positive in the twin cities on Saturday.
The school was sealed on the directives of District Health Officer (DHO) Islamabad Dr Zaeem Zia after three cases of coronavirus were traced.
The order stated that it was observed that three cases were reported from IMSG (VI-X) G-7/2, therefore, it was advised to immediately close down the campus premises for a period till further intimation by the office of the DHO and conduct thorough disinfection activities.
Furthermore, Covid-19 testing of all the exposed staff and students must be performed and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) must be ensured, it said, adding that close contacts of the positive cases must be quarantined for a period of 14 days.
Dr Zia said the weekly percentage graph of Covid-19 diagnosed cases had slightly increased in Islamabad. Last week’s percentage was 1.5 which has risen to 2.1 in the current week.
The current ratio is higher than the percentage of the last three weeks, the health official said, adding that 1.67pc was reported between Jan 18-24, 1.61pc during Jan 25-31 and 1.57pc between Feb 1-7.
“Our teams are keeping a close check on the virus trend,” he added.
In Islamabad, a woman in the age group of 60-69 succumbed to the virus while 112 more cases were reported on Saturday.
According to the district administration’s data, during the last 24 hours 5,065 tests were conducted out of which results of 60 males and 52 females came back positive.
The positivity rate was 2.2pc, the data said, adding that 23 cases were reported in the age group of 30-39, followed by 22 in 40-49, 18 in 20-29, 12 each in 0-9 and 60-69, 11 in 10-19, eight in 50-59, four in 70-79 and two in 80 and above.
They said 11 cases were reported from Lohi Bher, followed by 10 in Bhara Kahu, seven each in I-8 and F-11, six in Tarlai, five each from G-6, Khanna, G-7 and Chak Shahzad, four each from G-11, Rawat, G-10, Alipur, Koral and E-9, three each from E-11 and F-8, two each from G-9, F-10, Kurri and F-15, one each from I-10, G-8, F-7, Sohan, I-9, H-13, G-15, G-5, Rawal Town, Kirpa, Chirrah, and Tarnol.
Rawalpindi
As many as 17 people got infected in the district, however no casualty was reported.
In Rawalpindi District, there are 237 active patients out of which 86 were in hospitals and 151 isolated in their homes.
Out of 17 new patients, 12 belonged to Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas, one patient arrived from Kahuta, two from Kallar Syedan and two were from Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Islamabad.
As many as 86 patients are admitted to Rawalpindi hospitals out of whom 11 were in Benazir Bhutto Hospital, 19 in Fauji Foundation Hospital, 13 in Holy Family Hospital, 17 in Rawalpindi Institute of Urology and two in Hearts International Hospital.
A total of eight patients are on ventilators, 25 patients required oxygen and 29 were stable.Meanwhile, after the emergence of four new patients in Attock during the last 24 hours, the total number of cases in the district has risen to 1,248.
District Health Authority Chief Executive Dr Jawad Elahi said all four cases were from Attock city. He said the number of active patients in the district was 70.
