SIALKOT, Oct 10: The administration on Monday started a survey of all the buildings of public and private educational institutions in Sialkot and Narowal districts and declared many of them as ‘dangerous’.

According to official sources, special teams comprising high-ranking officials of the education and building departments inspected the various damaged buildings in the districts, besides those which developed cracks due to the recent earthquake.

The teams, expressing dissatisfaction over the poor condition of several buildings of government and private educational institutions, declared these structures as dangerous.

Some members of the teams told journalists they advised the schools’ managements not to resume classes in the dangerous declared buildings, mostly in congested localities, without carrying out repairs. They said several school buildings had already been declared dangerous, and developed cracks because of the Saturday’s earthquake.

Meanwhile, Sialkot DCO Shafqat Ranjha told journalists the district government had directed the school and college managements to close down educational activities in the dilapidated buildings to avert any untoward incident.

Compensation: The Punjab government has announced a compensation of Rs100,000 each for the heirs of the two persons who were killed in quake-related incidents here on Saturday.

Tayaba Shahzad, 8, and Abdul Rahman, 45, were buried in their native graveyards in Jethikey village, Sambrial, and Begowala on Monday in the presence of hundreds of mourners.
